Holiness

One day when Moses was tending his father-in-law’s sheep on Mount Horeb, a flame of fire suddenly caught his eye. A bush was burning but was not being consumed, Moses turned aside to see it some more.

“When the Lord saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, “Moses, Moses!” and he said “Here I am” “Then He said, do not come near here, remove the sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.” He also said “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob. Then Moses hid his face for he was afraid to look at God” Exodus 3: 4-6

When we come before YHVH we come into His Holy Presence through the Blood of Yeshua our Messiah. There is no other way. When we believe that Yeshua has suffered, died and risen again to pay the price for our sin we receive the Father’s forgiveness and mercy. This is not to be taken lightly. We receive this wonderful gift of salvation and we have a responsibility to learn how to live a life that is pleasing to the Father.

Three months after leaving Egypt, Moses and the people were at the base of Mt Sinai. Moses went up the Mountain to be with God. He wanted to commune with God and God told Moses,

“You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself. Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you will be a peculiar treasure to Me above all people, for all the earth is Mine. And you are called to be a kingdom of priests to Me and a holy nation. These are the words you will speak to the children of Israel.” Exodus 19:4-6

Reading on in this chapter you will read the instructions Moses received on how the people were to sanctify themselves for three days cleansing and washing themselves and their clothes and setting themselves apart to meet with YHVH because He is Holy. On the third day YHVH descended upon the mountain with thunders, smoke, quakes and fire! The people trembled but Moses obediently ascended the mountain. He was not afraid because He knew God. He had experienced God in the fire that didn’t consume the bush. He was in love with YHVH and His Holiness and had learned if he walked in obedience to Yahveh he would be fine!

What seemed through natural eyes to be fearful and dangerous was actually the safest and most beautiful place to be!

Our God is a consuming fire” Hebrews 12:29, Deuteronomy 9:3, Deuteronomy 4:24

How do we prepare ourselves to be in the presence of our Holy God? I suggest the cleansing and washing of the people on the outside was for us to learn from. We bathe and present ourselves clean and tidy as we would do for any royal guest who we entertain. But there is so much more. Our hearts need to first be cleansed by the Blood of the Lamb. Our hearts need to be seeking Him and wanting to be in His Presence (as per Moses example) When we do this we receive His Torah on our hearts (as Moses received them on the mountain – now we receive them on our hearts – Jeremiah 31:32-33)

We receive His Torah (Yeshua is the Living Word/Torah) and we are called to be Priests to Yahveh and to be Holy living a set apart life for Him.

And you will be a kingdom of priests to Me and a holy nation” Exodus 19:6

but just as the One Who called you is holy, so now you must also be holy in all your conduct” 1 Peter 1: 16

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people that has become God’s property, so that you would proclaim the manifestation of divine power of the One who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light” 1 Peter2:9

We are called to be Holy. We need to be washed in His Word. We need our minds and thought patterns renewed by His Word. He sends us His Holy Spirit to be our teacher to lead us into all Truth.

But when that One would come, the Spirit of Truth, He will guide you in all truth: for He will not speak from Himself, but whatever He will hear He will speak and report the things that are coming to you. That One will glorify Me, because He will take from Me and He will teach you” John 16:13,14

Yeshua is the Living Word. Only He can satisfy us. As we surrender to Him and spend time getting to know Him, His fire will consume the dross in us and we are cleansed not only on the outside but on the inside where it matters. We are called to be holy and the passage in Exodus goes on the show Moses receiving the Ten Commandments from God while he is on that Mountain. These Commandments are our covenant with God that we will worship Him alone and walk in obedience to His ways so we can become the Bride of Yeshua. We are being built together as living stones (1 Peter 2:1-5) so we can be a holy people who will serve and worship our Father in Heaven.

Learning to walk in holiness is a process we go through, it comes with hurdles and admonitions, prayer and perseverance. As we learn to walk in the Fathers Ways observing His Commandments, His Shabbat and His Feasts we are learning to walk as His Bride! As we spend time in His Presence we come to know Him and understand His Spirit who teaches us in His still small voice, in promptings and through the Word we study. It is so beautiful and so amazing that we have this privilege. It is important we keep on the path He has shown us so like Moses we are safe in His secret place!

“He that dwells in the secret place of the Most High will abide under the shadow of the Almighty” Psalms 91:1

May we long to dwell (live) in His Presence and become Holy as He is Holy through our time spent close to Him!
